Have you found yourself feeling anxious about BREXIT?

Maybe you’re nervous about what could happen to your business and what that would mean for you, your family and your team?

All that blood, sweat and tears that you have tirelessly put into making your business a success seem to be threatened by this thing called “BREXIT”.

We hear Theresa May state, “We’re going to make a success of BREXIT”.

Does that really reassure you?

So what are we to do during these uncertain times?

What systems can we put in place now that will give us the certainty we need inside to keep moving forward?

I don’t have a crystal ball and even if I did, I don’t know how to read it!! So I am not going to tell you that there won’t be challenging times ahead – there will.

Just like there were challenging times when you started out in business, right….???

Remember the moment you decided to get your business off the ground?

How am I going to raise the capital?

Who can work with me on this?

Am I able to do this?

These are questions you probably asked yourself when you started your business.

But, and it’s a REALLY BIG BUT, you’re here today with your business.

You came through all of those challenges; you found a way; you drove your business to make it a success.

So I have a question for you, how did you do it?

What went on inside that kept you going when the going got tough?

I remember the look on the faces of our “Double Your Business” members when I turned to them recently and said, “It’s simple; the quality of your life is in direct proportion to the amount of uncertainty you can comfortably handle.”

You could have heard a pin drop in the room as they all began to process the concept….

The quality of your life is in direct proportion to the amount of uncertainty you can comfortably handle.

Think about it.  If we can get ourselves as the leader in the business to be able to handle uncertainty much better we are going to show up in a different place when we walk into the office.

How do you handle uncertainty better?  You are already better at it than you may realise.  Every time you drive in the dark you are prepared to drive only being able to see 40 feet in front of you (maybe a little further with modern headlights).  There is uncertainty as to what is beyond the range of your headlights but because you have confidence in your ability and the capability of your vehicle to stop and take evasive action in time, you are confident to drive at night.

What are the equivalent of the headlights in your business?  It might be the key performance indicators you measure performance.  It may be the regular conversations you have with your customers understanding their changing requirements and adjusting your offering to meet those needs and stay in demand.  It may be the attention you are paying to the change in the technological, economic, environmental and societal trends.

Whilst we may not know what is beyond the reach of headlights in the post brexit market place it shouldn’t stop us moving forward. If you are driving at night you have more time to avoid a car ahead which is driving more slowly than you than one that is stopped dead in the road ahead of you.  Too many business leaders are sitting on the fence.  They may as well just stop dead on the motorway with their lights off. They are asking to be wiped out.

Look for the opportunities, for the things others are missing.  This is the time to grab market share, to take the lead and stand out in your market.

Ultimately it is this that will get us through whatever challenges lie ahead.  We need to show up in the right frame of mind to lead our business.

Remember, you are very experienced at dealing with challenges.  You wouldn’t still be in business if you weren’t.

The quality of your life is in direct proportion to the amount of uncertainty you can comfortably handle.

Take that uncertainty and make it your friend.  Turn up the amount of certainty by taking purposeful action.

Keep growing.
